New World of Warcraft specialization promises ‘a playstyle never seen before’-

Associate editor Tyler Colp said back in March that he was convinced Blizzard was about to bring a ranged support class to World of Warcraft. As it turns out, he was partly right: Today Blizzard unveiled the new Augmentation specialization for the Dracthyr Evoker class, a damage dealer role coming to the game this summer that uses “the essence of the Black and Bronze dragonflights to amplify the abilities of nearby allies.”

“The playstyle for this new specialization involves empowering your allies with a variety of beneficial effects,” Blizzard explained in the Augmentation Evoker preview. “Some can be cast directly on your allies, while others are tied to using your damage-dealing abilities effectively. Augmentation Evokers deliver their damage in a wholly unique way. They act as force multipliers, increasing their group’s capabilities (and damage output) significantly.”

Some Augmentation abilities will buff either your entire party or individual members, and many will …

Fortnite disables hurdling after it keeps launching players into the stratosphere-

Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 1 hasn’t been having the greatest time lately. It’s been plagued with bugs, the latest of which has found players launched staggeringly far above the map before plunging to their untimely death.

It’s thanks to hurdling, which is supposed to allow players to gently vault over fences and other low objects. The movement had already been disabled back in December thanks to a bug, returning earlier in the week. Sadly, it’s still not been fixed as videos have begun cropping up on Reddit showing the game launching players a little further than intended.

Just how far you get flung into orbit seems to vary, with some getting a nice overhead view of the entire map, while some are only teleported a short distance. Others are flung high enough to die, but not high enough to seem to have any amount of time to appropriately react. It’s quite funny to witness after the fact, but perhaps not too pleasurable for people who are actually trying to p…

Overwatch fans unite to hate on $40 Diablo skins in its latest season-

Less than 24 hours since its release, Overwatch 2’s latest season has ignited angry Reddit threads and TikTok comments from fans who are unhappy with the value of its paid hero skins.

Most of the criticisms target the $40 Ultimate Battle Pass Bundle which includes two highly-anticipated Diablo-themed skins: Lilith Moira and Inarius Pharah. The skins transform both Overwatch heroes into the deceptive characters from Blizzard’s dark fantasy action RPG, and even gives them new voice lines during combat. Of the two skins, however, Lilith Moira is the star of the season, flawlessly capturing Moira’s controversial reputation in the community and the game’s story.

But since its launch last year, Overwatch 2’s expensive shop prices and inconsistent skin quality  have repeatedly upset players, especially those who were used to the original Overwatch’s loot box system. The hero shooter’s monetization was frequently mentioned in the flood of negative reviews it received when i…

Rat smashers stay winning as Warhammer- Vermintide 2 gets another free update—a whole new map and enemy type-

Warhammer: Vermintide 2 might be seven years old, but it’s still getting free content updates. There’s that long-awaited versus mode, of course, though that’s still in testing—in the meantime, says Fatshark, here’s a free map and a new enemy type, because why not?

A Parting of the Waves makes to round out the Karak Azgaraz campaign. If you’ve played the first game, that name might sound familiar, and you’d be right. Karak Azgaraz was remastered for Vermintide 2 a while back. The new map, however, is an entirely new addition to the rehashed story.

The concept is pretty dang funny, too—it’s basically a mandated workplace bonding trip for the Ubersreik Five: “Our Heroes are not on the best of terms right now,” reads the official post on the game’s website. “… Today, the Ubersreik Five are on the verge of falling apart. That’s when jolly ol’ Kruber had a fantastic idea! The Five should group up and set sail, chasing after the Skaven ships fleeing af…

The BBC dons its game dev cap to combine 2 things I fear and don’t understand- The UK General Election and Roblox-

In the ultimate team-up of ‘things I dread the societal consequences of’, the UK General Election is coming to Roblox. It’s courtesy of the BBC, and is meant to serve as “an engaging and fun way to learn more about the country’s election whilst interacting with [the BBC’s] top political experts.” Naturally, it’s been set up to coincide with the upcoming election on July 4, the first one the UK has had since, let me see, three prime ministers ago.

In practice, what that means is that the BBC’s Wonder Chase Roblox area—a big rambling space full of activities based on the Beeb’s shows—has had its heart converted into a mockup of 10 Downing Street, presided over by the watchful eye of Larry the cat, the real-life chief mouser to the cabinet office. Also presided over, less regally, by real-life BBC journalists Laura Kuenssberg, Clive Myrie, and Jeremy Vine.

As you might imagine, it’s all very much aimed at kids (or as the BBC refers to them, the “under 25 R…

Didn’t see this one coming- Roblox has an official Jaws game-

Here’s a collaboration no-one saw coming: Steven Spielberg’s 1975 horror classic Jaws is coming to Roblox, the hugely successful creation platform beloved by a predominately young audience. But then I probably saw Jaws when I was about eight years old (obsessed with sharks), so I can talk.

The experience, to use Roblox’s terminology, has been developed by Orange Comet / Gcraft in collaboration with Universal and is called Jaws: Infested Waters (as first reported by Bloody Disgusting). I hadn’t heard of Orange Comet so looked up the studio’s past work and… well, if you want to buy an NFT of Anthony Hopkins’ face, they’ve got you covered. Its past dalliance with fads aside, however, this Jaws adaptation actually looks pretty neat, and seems to have a few similarities to how the Jaws board game works.

Yes, I like Jaws so much I bought the board game and made other adults play it with me. Jaws: Infested Waters lets players assume the …

Starfield’s surprise anime series features battling mechs and fans are hoping they’ll be playable in the game-

With the sci-fi RPG epic Starfield now just over a month away, Bethesda Softworks has released The Settled Systems – A Starfield Animated Anthology, a trio of brief animes offering a look at life in three of the game’s biggest cities—and it’s got some fans hoping that maybe Todd Howard has been holding something back.

The videos don’t reveal much about what we can look forward to in the game, but the presence of mechs in the Where Hope is Built episode has fans in the Starfield subreddit wondering if they’ll be able to do some blasting and slugging with giant fighting robots at some point. Todd Howard has previously said there will be no land vehicles in the game, which seems clear enough, but hope dies hard, especially since there was also a mech tease in the official gameplay trailer (you can see one at 1:06, though it appears to be defunct). And hey, is a big robot really a vehicle anyway?

Mech speculation (mechulation?) aside, these videos …

One week after saying it was ‘hard at work on our next project,’ Immortals of Aveum developer Ascendant Studios has reportedly furloughed most of its remaining staff-

Six months after laying off nearly half its staff following the poorly-received launch of Immortals of Aveum, developer Ascendant Studios has reportedly now furloughed the majority of its remaining employees.

Word of the new troubles at Ascendant came by way of a LinkedIn post (via Eurogamer) from former employee Kris Morness, who said “the majority of their staff”—he estimated around 30 in total—had been placed on furlough. That means impacted employees will maintain their jobs, but will have reduced or no hours—and thus, reduced or no income—due to a lack of work. As they’re not being let go, they’re also not eligible for severance pay, although their benefits packages will presumably be maintained. Ascendant has not yet commented on the report but Polygon senior reporter Nicole Carpenter said Morness’ statement “lines up” with her own information about the studio.

Ascendant Studios laid off roughly 45% of its employees in September 2023, just a…

Three yellows… OK, that’s great… three greens next… that’s even better… and then…? Disaster. I had the same grey gaps in the same places for three goes in a row, leaving me with just one go left—a classic all-or-nothing scenario. It definitely took me longer to finally spot today’s Wordle answer hiding in the remaining unused letters than I wanted it to, but the wave of relief that washed over me after was worth the temporary worry.

Unhinged Sims 4 player keeps building hidden village bunkers ‘for capturing and storing men’-

If I ever needed more evidence that Build Mode and Live Mode players of The Sims are built different, this is it. Sims player Kewlcy has exemplified a Live Mode sicko by building not just one underground kidnapping bunker but an entire hidden city “for capturing and storing men.”

It all seems to have started back in 2022 with just a single house. Hidden beneath this gothic home is a basement. And in that basement is a long hallway and security doors all leading to a secret bunker designed like a ’50s-inspired home with a fake yard and pool all multiple levels underground.

Kewlcy’s amateur abductress witch sim would flirt with random Sims walking by the house above, invite them down into the basement bunker, and lock them inside after a one night stand. By clicking the doors and setting them to lock for everyone but her own Sim (a feature normally used for keeping nosy neighbors from doing things like wandering into your bathroom without permission) she was able to trap t…

Vampire survival game passes three million sold, is adding castles with multiple floors-

V Rising emerged from its coffin into early access in May last year and found an audience ravenous for a bit of survival-tinged bloodsucking. Developer Stunlock Studios has now announced that the game has sold over 3 million copies, pretty incredible figures for a PC-only indie title that isn’t even fully released, and thanks to such success the ambitions for the future are high.

Literally. V Rising is far more than Valheim with vampires and, at its beating heart, is your big ol’ gothic castle. The studio recently announced that a major free update is incoming, and the bit that matters is the admittedly dull-sounding multiple castle floors. But this is “by far the most requested feature” for the simple reason that “the vision of a dark silhouette on the cliff-side, tall and spearing the sky with towers, easily takes a Vampire’s imagination to an entire world of possibilities. One cannot help but dream of a mansion, a maze of rooms stacked atop a maze of rooms, opu…

You can get 25 Call of Cthulhu books for around $25 in this latest Humble Bundle—including the Starter Set, a deck of monster cards, and a colouring book-

Humble Bundle’s dropped another great TTRPG deal—this time for Lovecraft lovers with its Call of Cthulhu book bundle. At the time of writing, the bundle has raised over $22,000 for the World Wildlife Fund. It’s also a pretty damn good deal from a buyer’s standpoint, too.

The bundle includes the game’s Starter Set as well as a host of other supplements: including tips for the Keeper (the game’s equivalent of a DM/GM), a PDF full of horrible monster cards to break your players with, campaigns like Alone Against the Tide, and supplements to help you run stories from occult pulp mysteries to modern horror.

My experience with the system’s limited to a couple of one-shots, though I do recognise “Down Darker Trails”—a booklet that lets you transfer Call of Cthulhu to the weird wild west. While the system’s a little tough to chew through (and perhaps a touch blase about its approach to sanity mechanics, a legacy that other systems like Critical Role’s Candela Obscura…

This soon turned out to be a pretty helpful situation, with today’s Wordle answer revealing itself with just a few more careful guesses.

Elden Ring players find cut voice lines from Shadow of the Erdtree bosses that probably should’ve said something, if we’re being honest-

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is a banger of an expansion—a return to the densely-packed worlds of Dark Souls yore, rammed with new and deadly weapons, and saddled with a final boss so unrelentingly hard it started a whole new difficulty discourse before, naturally, getting demolished by the unbeatable dodge gods of the gaming public.

But there’s one flaw in the diamond: A few bosses—ones who are pretty important to the game’s lore—are completely mute. In particular, Rellana and Romina are silent as the grave: but it wasn’t always that way.

Watch On

First surfacing on streaming website bilibili, then fully datamined by sleuth BonfireVN, a set of voice lines for several side characters (and two bosses) have been uncovered, and it seems like they were axed from the DLC for reasons I’ll never quite understand. Rellana’s voiceline is a simple “Rise, twin moons!” whereas Romina has a few barks: “Children of the tower” and “Butterflies, take wing!”.

A neural network is ‘playing’ Doom by generating frames one by one and it’s pretty trippy, man-

Watch On

“But can it run Doom?” is an adage that has managed to travel through almost every piece of tech on the market. From controlling the game with a toaster to running Doom on a pregnancy test (please wash your hands after), it has almost become a benchmark of geeky creativity.

A joint effort from researchers at Google Research, Google DeepMind, and Tel Aviv University has managed to get the classic shooter running on nothing but a neural network (via Futurism). This essentially generates a frame, based on a model that is trained on the real game. You can check out a video of it running in real-time right here but there are natural limitations to it.

For the unaware, a neural network is an AI structure modelled after the human brain that uses machine learning to process commands and prompts. They are notably used in predictive models, due to their ability to grasp concepts more broadly than traditional AI.

A large part of making them better i…
